Samba and MasterCard sign historic debit card partnership Agreement

Samba and MasterCard have signed an agreement migrating Samba ATM Cards, the Kingdom’s leading banking cards, presently carrying the ‘Maestro’ mark into Samba MasterCard Debit cards. The agreement was signed in New York on March 28 by Mr. Eisa Al Eisa, Chairman of Samba, and Mr. Ajay Banga, President & CEO of MasterCard Worldwide.

With the migration to MasterCard Debit, the agreement transforms Samba ATM Cards into powerful global debit cards accepted at millions of shops, establishments and ATMs worldwide that carry the MasterCard name. This move would enable Samba customers to have direct access to their banking accounts anywhere they may be in the world giving them the convenience of payment choices with absolute ease.

Samba’s partnership with MasterCard over two decades has powered the success of Samba’s ATM cards, the leading banking cards in Saudi Arabia used in more ATM card transactions internationally.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in New York, Mr. Eisa Al Eisa, Chairman of Samba Financial Group, said: "Our association with MasterCard has a history of over two decades with numerous milestones along the years. Samba has always led the way in making things easier for customers to enjoy banking services and to access their money anywhere in the world. The MasterCard Debit mark will transform their ATM Card and make it even easier for Samba customers to pay, shop, and enjoy the best things in life wherever they may be".

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Ajay Banga said: "Over the past 24 years, MasterCard and SAMBA have worked together to bring innovative products to the Saudi market and to enhance the payments ecosystem. We are delighted that SAMBA is introducing the MasterCard Debit Card to its customers, bringing with it better acceptance and enhanced safety features for cardholders".

Samba is also the leading issuer of co-branded cards in the Kingdom. These include Samba cards issued in partnership with Saudia, Sony, Mobily, Al Mamlaka, Panda HyperMarkets, Jarir Bookstore and the latest official co-brand with F.C. Barcelona – one of the world’s best known football clubs.
